How to Set Ringtone on Android

A mobile phone ringtone refers to the music or sound played when a call or text message is received. Everyone can set their favorite ringtone according to their personal preferences and style to make the phone more personalized and unique.


Using a Samsung Galaxy

Change your ringtone

  1. 1. Go to Settings > Sound and vibration > Ringtone.
  2. 2. Once you’re in Ringtone, you can choose from a wide variety of sounds. Your current volume and whether you have vibrate activated will be on top, along with Samsung’s brand sounds. If you’ve chosen a different sound, you’ll have to swipe down to find it.

Add a custom ringtone

  1. 1. Go to Settings > Sound and vibration > Ringtone.
  2. 2. Tap the plus sign in the upper-right corner.
  3. 3. You’ll see a list of all your available audio files on the Sound picker page. Select the one you want to use. A toggle above the list lets you play either the entire file or selected highlights.
  4. 4. Tap Done.

Add a custom ringtone

To select a specific ringtone for one of your contacts:


  1. 1. Open the Phone app and choose Contacts from the bottom menu.
  2. 2. Select the contact you want to choose the ringtone for.
  3. 3. From the icons that appear, select the Information icon.
  4. 4. Tap the three dots labeled More and select Change ringtone/vibration > Ringtone.
  5. 5. You’ll be back on the Ringtones page; select the ringtone you want to assign to that contact.

Set on other Android Device

  1. 1. On your Android device, open the Files by Google app Files by Google.
  2. 2. Under “Categories,” scroll to "Audio."
  3. 3. Find and play the audio file you want to set as your ringtone.
  4. 4. Tap More More and then Set as ringtone.
  5. 5. On the permission dialog, tap Continue.
  6. 6. Turn on Allow modify system settings.
  7. 7. A confirmation message that ringtone is set will appear.



Upload a ringtone

You can upload MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, M4R, ACC format files.
